Rise of the Planet of the Apes (originally titled Caesar and Rise of the Apes) is an upcoming 2011 American science fiction film. The film is directed byRupert Wyatt. It is a reboot of the Planet of the Apes series that will act as a foundation with an origin story for a new film series. Will Rodman (James Franco), currently residing in San Francisco, is working on a cure for Alzheimer's by performing tests on apes. Rodman's "cure" genetically modifies Caesar's way of thinking to create a new breed of ape with human-like intelligence. Thousands of apes begin to foment revolution. Soon, war breaks out between humans and apes. Rodman may be the only one able to stop them before the ape revolution ends with the apes succeeding, humanity being driven to extinction, and apes becoming the most dominant species on Earth.
